Start with the property or estate, the energy objective and the information already available. AORO can then identify the right next step, such as an initial assessment, a site survey, technical feasibility work or a more detailed project brief.

A postcode, property type, recent electricity use and a short description of what you want to achieve are a useful start. For organisations, site lists, half-hourly data, drawings, operational constraints and procurement timescales can help, but you do not need everything before the first conversation.

AORO works across solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and selected low-carbon energy solutions. The recommended scope depends on the site, demand profile, electrical infrastructure, objectives and constraints rather than a standard equipment package.

The system is engineered around the property and its intended outcome. Even where equipment options are standardised, layout, capacity, electrical design, controls, access, approvals and delivery planning remain site-specific.

AORO supports projects across the United Kingdom, subject to survey availability, project scope, site access and delivery timescales. Coverage and the appropriate delivery route are confirmed during the initial assessment.

Suitability depends on usable roof area, orientation, pitch, shading, roof condition, structural considerations and the electrical connection. A north-facing or complex roof is not automatically excluded, but it requires a realistic assessment of expected generation and project value.

Yes. Solar PV uses daylight rather than heat, so panels continue to generate in overcast conditions, although output changes with irradiance, season, orientation, shading and system design. Forecasts should use location-specific assumptions rather than idealised figures.

No. A battery can increase the amount of generated electricity used on site and may support tariff or operational objectives, but its value depends on the consumption profile, solar generation, tariffs, available space, electrical design and intended use.

Battery capacity and power are considered separately. Selection should reflect energy use, solar generation, peak demand, desired operating strategy, future changes and site constraints. Simply choosing the largest battery does not guarantee the best technical or commercial outcome.

Only if the system is specifically designed with compatible backup functionality and a defined set of supported loads. A standard grid-connected battery may shut down during an outage. Backup requirements must be agreed during design, not assumed after installation.

Often, yes. Compatibility, available electrical capacity, equipment condition, metering, controls, warranties and the intended battery strategy must be reviewed. The preferred AC- or DC-coupled route depends on the existing system and project objectives.

Cost depends on capacity, equipment, roof or ground conditions, electrical works, access, scaffolding, design, approvals, monitoring and project complexity. A credible price should follow a defined scope; headline package prices are not a substitute for a site-specific proposal.

Calculations use expected generation, on-site consumption, import and export tariffs, operating profile, degradation, maintenance assumptions and project cost. They are forecasts rather than guarantees and should show the underlying assumptions clearly.

Eligible generators may be able to receive export payments through arrangements such as the Smart Export Guarantee. Eligibility, metering, evidence requirements and rates are set by the chosen electricity supplier and should be checked directly with that supplier.

Available payment or finance routes can depend on the project, applicant status, affordability, credit assessment and provider terms. Any finance illustration should be reviewed alongside the cash price, total amount payable and the technical proposal.

A robust commercial assessment normally uses interval consumption data, tariff information, site constraints, expected generation, self-consumption, capital and operating costs, delivery assumptions and sensitivity scenarios. The required level of detail depends on the decision and procurement stage.

Installation

The survey route depends on the project but may cover roof or land conditions, access, shading, plant areas, cable routes, electrical infrastructure, metering, fire and operational constraints. Any limitations are recorded so the design is based on verified information.

Timescales vary with system size, access, scaffolding, electrical scope, approvals, equipment availability, operating restrictions and commissioning requirements. AORO confirms a project programme after the site and scope have been assessed.

A controlled interruption may be required for parts of the electrical work and commissioning. The expected duration and timing are planned in advance, subject to site conditions and any issues identified during delivery.

Responsibilities are defined in the project scope. Where included, AORO coordinates the agreed survey, access, installation, electrical, commissioning and handover activities through a controlled delivery plan.

The handover package is matched to the project and may include commissioning records, system information, operating guidance, relevant certificates, warranties, monitoring access and defined support routes. Required documents should be agreed before delivery.

Yes. Access windows, shutdowns, safeguarding, deliveries, noise, segregation and critical activities can be built into the programme. The workable plan depends on early information and coordination with the responsible site team.

Many installations may fall within permitted-development rules, but this is not universal. Listed buildings, designated land, conservation considerations, unusual arrays and local restrictions can change the position. The planning route must be checked for the specific property and proposal.

The Distribution Network Operator manages the local electricity network. Depending on generation capacity, equipment and connection conditions, a project may require prior approval or a post-installation notification. The correct route is identified from the proposed system and site connection.

AORO can coordinate the relevant DNO application or notification within the agreed project scope. Network decisions, conditions and timescales remain under the control of the DNO and can affect the final design or programme.

The design may need to be revised, export limited, phased or combined with a suitable control or storage strategy. The appropriate response depends on the network offer, demand profile, project economics and operational objective.

Structural information or assessment may be required where roof loading, condition, mounting, wind actions or project scale make it necessary. The required evidence is identified during technical review and should be resolved before installation.

Warranty periods and conditions vary by equipment, manufacturer, installation scope and contract. The applicable product and workmanship information should be set out in the proposal and handover documents rather than assumed from a generic headline.

There is no universal cleaning interval. Rain may remove some surface dirt, while local dust, bird activity, pitch, nearby trees and access conditions can change the requirement. Performance and condition should be assessed before unnecessary cleaning is scheduled.

Record the alert or symptom, avoid opening electrical equipment and use the support route provided at handover. The support team can then identify the correct diagnostic or service action. Urgent safety concerns should be reported immediately.
