What is
Plug-In Solar?

A compact solar system pairs panels with a microinverter to generate electricity for your home during daylight hours. It works alongside your normal grid supply.

Start with the system that fits your space. Check the connection requirements and approved installation guidance before you buy.

See the three stages: panel, inverter and home →
CHECK YOUR HOME

Is Plug-In Solar
right for you?

A short checklist, before you choose. Suitability depends on your outdoor space, electrical installation and the approved kit.

Read Electrical Safety First guidance

A good starting point

  • Safe outdoor space with reasonable daylight
  • A secure position for the permitted mount
  • Any required property permissions
  • Your electrics assessed before purchase

Know your connection

Electrical Safety First recommends at least a Type A bidirectional RCD for the circuit. Type AC protection needs upgrading first.

Use one system per household. Do not use extension leads or adapters.

UNDERSTAND YOUR SAVINGS

What could your
solar electricity save?

The solar electricity you use at home is electricity you do not need to buy. Explore how generation, daytime use and your tariff affect savings.

An illustrative calculation, not a yield forecast or guarantee. It excludes export income, degradation and any installation or maintenance costs.

How does solar reduce electricity from the grid?Explore a moment of energy use

Solar first. The grid fills the gap.

Move the two sliders to explore one moment during daylight. Solar meets part of your household demand; excess generation may flow to the grid.

Power at a moment, in watts. Annual savings above use energy over a year, in kWh. Export income is excluded.

Ground mount

18° HDPE ballast supports: allow 1054 × 695 × 507 mm per support for space planning. Landscape mounting uses 2 supports for one panel or 3 for two. Ballast sits inside the compartments. Add 100 kg of ballast per support: 200 kg for Single or 300 kg for Dual. Follow the rail and clamp instructions; support dimensions are not the full kit footprint.

Ground mount assembly reference →
Wall mount

Use 6 mini rails with sliding clamps per panel: 3 at the top and 3 at the bottom. A Dual kit uses 12 rail and clamp assemblies. Confirm the wall’s construction, load capacity, fixings and safe installation access. Permissions may be required. Do not assume a fence, timber structure or balcony railing is suitable.

Measure before you commit

Check the selected panel’s dimensions and weight, the assembled mount, the shipment and the whole handling route. The single-panel page lists the selected JA Solar / AIKO 460 W and DMEGC 500 W models and their manufacturer dimensions. Check the approved mount drawing and shipment details before purchase.

Socket, cable and additional items

Both kits include one 5 m UK 3-pin connection lead. Allow enough cable for the route, bends and strain-free connections. It must reach a suitable outdoor socket directly; do not use extension leads or adapters. Ground ballast and masonry anchors depend on the site. Check the delivery list and mounting instructions before obtaining additional parts.

Change of mind

UK distance-selling rights generally allow 14 days after receipt to notify cancellation and a further 14 days to return goods. AORO-arranged collection for change-of-mind returns costs £50. This is return transport, not an administration or restocking fee. Faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods are handled separately without this charge.

Read statutory returns guidance ↗

Damage or a fault

Keep the reference and describe the affected part. Photograph the issue where safe and stop using damaged equipment. Faulty-goods rights are separate from change-of-mind returns.

Warranty & refund

Panel product cover, panel performance cover and inverter cover are separate. JA Solar and AIKO state 25-year product and 30-year performance cover; DMEGC’s current M10RT-B60 policy provides 25-year limited product and 30-year performance cover, subject to eligible supply and policy conditions. AORO provides a 25-year commercial warranty for the supplied Fox ESS M1-800-E microinverter. This AORO cover is separate from the manufacturer’s published limited warranty and your statutory rights. Read the model-specific terms on the support page; statutory rights remain separate.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions, answered.

Speak with the AORO team
Should I choose one panel or two?

Start with the available space and your daytime electricity demand. Compare panel area, handling and the final kit output. Two panels need more room; neither option replaces a full home energy assessment.

Can I choose JA Solar, AIKO or DMEGC?

Yes. These are three panel options within both AORO Single and Dual Panel Plug-In Solar Kits, with Fox ESS 800W-class microinverter, UK 3-pin connection and app / Wi-Fi monitoring. The selected models are JA Solar JAM54D41-460/LB (460 W), AIKO AIKO-A460-MAH54Mb (460 W) and DMEGC DM500M10RT-B60HBT/HST (500 W). Manufacturer datasheets and dimensions are available on both product pages. Dual includes 2 × 460 W (920 W DC) for JA Solar / AIKO or 2 × 500 W (1000 W DC) for DMEGC with one Fox ESS M1-800-E rated 800 W nominal AC.

How are estimated savings calculated?

The calculator multiplies annual generation by the proportion used at home and your electricity unit rate. Its inputs are illustrative assumptions, not a site-specific production forecast. Export income is excluded.

How much space do I need?

Measure panel height, width and depth, the mount footprint and clearance, plus the route from delivery to its final position. Single Panel module dimensions are 1762 × 1134 × 30 mm for JA Solar (22 kg), 1757 × 1134 × 30 mm for AIKO (21.5 kg) and 1950 × 1134 × 30 mm for DMEGC (26.8 kg). Allow for the mounting footprint and safe clearances; panel dimensions do not describe the complete assembled kit.

Do I need an electrician?

Connecting the prepared kit through its supplied UK plug is different from changing house wiring. Electrical Safety First advises an electrical suitability assessment before purchase or use. If your socket or circuit protection needs upgrading, use a qualified electrician. Do not rewire the lead, open the inverter or repair electrical parts yourself.

What happens during a power cut?

This grid-connected kit is not sold as outage backup. The microinverter stops supplying power when the mains supply is lost. Do not rely on the system to keep appliances running in a grid outage.

Can I monitor generation through an app?

Both kits use FoxCloud 2.0 for manufacturer monitoring. Register as an Owner, add the device to your plant and configure a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network through Me → WLAN Configuration. The setup page links the official app guide and explains power, energy and connection troubleshooting. FoxCloud is a Fox ESS app.

Where do you deliver and how much does it cost?

VAT and UK kerbside delivery are included: £385 for Single Panel and £585 for Dual Panel. Allow 3 weeks from order confirmation. Contact plugin@aorosolar.co.uk if you have delivery access questions.

Can I cancel or return my kit?

Contact AORO with the order reference. UK distance-selling rights generally give 14 days after receipt to notify cancellation, then a further 14 days to return goods. AORO-arranged change-of-mind return collection costs £50. This transport charge does not apply to faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods. Contact plugin@aorosolar.co.uk for return instructions.

What warranty will I receive?

JA Solar and AIKO sheets state 25-year manufacturer product and 30-year linear performance warranties. DMEGC’s current N-type policy covers the selected M10RT-B60 glass-glass family for 25 years against product defects and 30 years for performance. Policy DMW-STD02N-2026002 applies to manufacturer supply agreements from 1 June 2026; eligible supply and claim conditions apply. Manufacturer conditions apply. AORO provides a 25-year commercial warranty for the supplied Fox ESS M1-800-E microinverter. This AORO cover is separate from the manufacturer’s published limited warranty and your statutory rights. Contact plugin@aorosolar.co.uk with your order reference and serial number to start a claim. Statutory rights remain separate.
